Reformed Villains Unite in Thunderbolts
Marvel fans, get ready for one of the most anticipated releases of the year! Thunderbolts is bringing together an all-star ensemble of antiheroes, including reformed villain Bucky Barnes, played by none other than Sebastian Stan. Joining him are Florence Pugh as the troubled assassin Yelena Belova, David Harbour as the charismatic Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the mysterious Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and more.

Originally slated for a 2023 release, Thunderbolts was delayed due to production hiccups, but the film is finally set to hit theaters soon. Sebastian Stan, who has portrayed Bucky Barnes since 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, likened Thunderbolts to Miloš Forman’s iconic 1975 film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. According to Stan, his character’s journey mirrors that of a chaotic, disjointed group finding unity through adversity: “It’s a group that’s out of control, and Bucky is the one trying to find a way to unite them.”
Stan also shared his thoughts on the ever-growing criticism of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “It’s become really convenient to pick on [Marvel films],” he said. “But they’re a huge part of what makes this industry work, enabling the production of smaller films too. Sometimes I get protective of it because the intention is pure, and making a great movie consistently is hard.” Over the years, Stan has become more determined to challenge himself in his acting career, pursuing roles that push his boundaries while remaining loyal to the complex character of Bucky Barnes.
