Richard Gere Finds Peace and Family in Spain

On Wednesday, Jan. 1, Alejandra Silva, Richard Gere’s wife, shared a video on her Instagram Stories showcasing their family outing as they explored her home country of Spain, following their recent move from the United States.

In the clip, Gere is seen holding hands with one of their young sons, dressed in a red hat and black puffer jacket, as they walk across a bridge. Silva then pans to reveal the stunning view of a city perched atop cliffs.

“Visiting Cuenca,” Silva captions the footage, referring to the Spanish city located in the mountains of eastern Spain.

Gere, 75, and Silva have two sons together, Alexander, 5, and James, 4, along with Gere’s son Homer, 24, from his previous marriage to Carey Lowell, and Silva’s son Albert, 11.

Richard Gere’s move to Spain marks a major transition for the veteran actor, who has long been a fixture of Hollywood. At 75, Gere is embracing a slower, more family-oriented lifestyle, trading in the bright lights of Los Angeles and New York for the scenic tranquility of Madrid. His decision to relocate has been rooted in a desire to give his wife, Alejandra Silva, the opportunity to reconnect with her family, many of whom live in Spain.

In April, Gere publicly shared his plans to move to Europe, explaining that the shift would not only allow for more quality time with Silva’s relatives but also bring their young children closer to her Spanish heritage. The couple’s decision came after careful consideration, and Gere quickly made good on his promise. In a significant move, they sold their Connecticut mansion for $10.75 million and began their journey to Spain.

By December, the family had arrived at their new home, settling into a picturesque property near Madrid. This timely arrival, just before the Christmas holiday, seemed to symbolize a fresh start, as the Gere-Silva family embraced the warmth of the Spanish culture and the joy of being together as a family in a more relaxed, peaceful setting. The move is not just about escaping the Hollywood lifestyle but also about focusing on the things that matter most to Gere in this stage of his life—his family and his personal well-being.

Gere’s connection to Spain runs deep. His wife, Alejandra, is Spanish, and the couple has spent time in the country over the years, further solidifying their bond with the culture and its traditions. Their children now have the opportunity to grow up immersed in the Spanish way of life, enjoying not just the natural beauty of the region but also the strong sense of community that comes with it.

For Gere, the move is a reflection of his shifting priorities. After decades of fame, international acclaim, and a career full of iconic roles, he has chosen to step away from the limelight and create a more intimate, grounded life in Europe. The actor has always been known for his humanitarian work and his love for the simple pleasures in life, and his new chapter in Spain is an extension of that philosophy.

In Madrid, Gere and his family are no longer bound by the fast-paced, high-profile life in Hollywood. Instead, they are enjoying the peace and simplicity of daily life, exploring the surrounding areas, soaking in the culture, and celebrating the holidays together. It’s a new beginning for the Gere-Silva family, one filled with the promise of adventure and connection, far from the glare of Hollywood, in the warm embrace of Spain.

As Richard Gere continues to embrace this quieter life, the transition reflects a broader trend among celebrities seeking balance and a reprieve from the pressures of fame. For Gere, his move to Spain is a personal choice, one that aligns with his values and desire to live fully in the present, focused on family, community, and a more balanced lifestyle.
