In this article, we will look at Singapore’s Insane Education System | A System Made for the Future.

Singapore’s educational system is among the best in the world, with its students consistently ranking near the top of education rankings in Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries.

How would you describe Singapore’s education system?

The elementary education in Singapore lasts six years, the secondary education lasts four to five years, and the post-secondary education lasts one to three years. Preschool is a voluntary program offered by the Ministry of Education Singapore (MOE) and private providers. It is often referred to as nursery school or kindergarten. About 20% of the yearly national budget is typically allocated to education spending, which supports public education, government-sponsored private education for Singaporeans, and the Edusave program. Non-citizens pay much more for their children’s education in government-run and government-aided schools in Singapore. The Compulsory Education Act of 2000 made it a crime for parents to neglect to enroll their children in school, and it made compulsory education for children of primary school age (apart from those with impairments) mandatory. Exemptions are allowed for homeschooling or full-time religious institutions, but parents must apply for exemption from the Ministry of Education and meet a minimum benchmark.

Financial assistance

A key goal of Singapore’s educational policies is to prevent financial disadvantage for any child. As a result, public school tuition is significantly subsidized. The six years of primary school are free of tuition, although there are normal incidental costs that children must pay each month of $6.50.The Financial aid Scheme (FAS) was established by the Ministry of Education to give financial aid for education to low-income households with a total household income of SGD$2,500 or a per capita income of less than SGD$625.00.Students eligible for FAS receive a full waiver of miscellaneous fees and a partial subsidy on national examination fees. They may also enjoy full or partial fee subsidies if they are in Independent Schools.

Why Singapore’s education system is so successful?

One of the key reasons why Singapore’s education system is so successful is because of it’s quality of teachers. The Ministry of Education is highly selective in its pool of educators. They need to train at the National Institute of Education before they can be dispatched to public schools.

Its well-trained teachers are the reason Singapore’s education system is so successful. Their teachers receive quality training prior to teaching in a mainstream school. Singapore has also established an institution just for our to-be teachers to go to, also known as the National Institute of Education. This is said to be a result of the teaching methodology used in Singapore. Teachers place a strong emphasis on ensuring that each student completes the curriculum before continuing.
