Taylor Swift’s Instagram post inspires over 35,000 people to register to vote

The 33-year-old singer used her 272 million Instagram followers to encourage them to register to vote on September 19, National Voter Registration Day. She asked on her Instagram Story, “Are you registered to vote yet?” and attached a link to Vote.org, that aids in voter registration.

“I’ve been very fortunate to recently run into so many of you guys at my US gigs. You all have raised your voices, and I am aware of their strength. In order to employ them in this year’s elections, make sure you are prepared.

It should come as no surprise that the celebrity’s infamously fervent supporters were ready to answer the call to action. Vote.org’s communications director, Nick Morrow, stated that following Swift’s article, the website saw an increase of 13,000 visitors every half-hour.

On X (formerly Twitter), Morrow wrote, “Let’s just say her reputation for being a mastermind is really well-earned.

Andrea Hailey, CEO of Vote.org, provided additional information on September 20. Hailey posted on X, saying that Swift’s posts led to 35,000 additional voter registrations, up 22.5 percent from 2022 and 115 percent more than the previous year for 18-year-olds. Additionally, 50,000 people were actively to verified the status of their registration.

Many admirers criticized Swift for keeping her political views a secret for so long, especially during the 2016 presidential campaign between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. However, in 2018, she openly endorsed Democratic senatorial candidate Phil Bredesen of Tennessee and attacked his Republican opponent, then-Representative Marsha Blackburn, for her views on women’s and LGBTQ issues.

Swift wrote in the caption of an Instagram image in October 2018: “In the past, I’ve been hesitant to publicly express my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and the world over the past two years, I feel very differently about that now.”

I support the battle for LGBTQ rights, and I think it is wrong to discriminate against anyone based on their sexual orientation or gender, she stated. “I feel that institutional racism that still exists in our nation against people of color is horrifying, disgusting, and pervasive. I am unable to support a candidate that will not stand up for the dignity of ALL Americans, regardless of their gender, race, or sexual orientation.
