Netflix Price Hikes Arrive in the UK: What You Need to Know

Netflix has announced a new round of price increases in the UK, following similar hikes in the United States last month. These changes affect various subscription tiers, signaling the streaming giant’s efforts to recover from its recent investments in sports rights and an expanded content library.

Here’s the breakdown of the new UK prices:

  • Standard with Ads: £5.99/month (up by £1)
  • Standard: £12.99/month (up by £2)
  • Premium: £18.99/month (up by £1)

Additionally, Netflix has made the decision to phase out its Basic plan, leaving viewers with fewer options to choose from. For those looking for a more affordable option, the ad-supported tier may be an attractive alternative.

For Sky customers, Netflix is available as part of certain Sky TV bundles. The Standard with Ads plan comes included, while upgrading to a higher tier (Standard or Premium) is available for an additional £6 or £11 per month, respectively.

This pricing move comes as Netflix seeks to recoup some of the costs from its heavy investments in sports content and expanding its programming. With these price adjustments, it’s clear that Netflix is doubling down on delivering a more diverse offering while also adjusting its strategy to ensure financial sustainability.

How do you feel about these price hikes? Will it change the way you access Netflix moving forward?
