Cupertino, California, October 27: Apple has introduced a new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by its latest M6 processor, bringing upgraded computing capabilities, enhanced wireless connectivity and longer battery life to its professional laptop lineup.
The announcement comes a day before the company’s “Pro and Tell” media event on Wednesday, October 28. Apple has also unveiled an updated iMac featuring the M6 chip, while its latest iPad mini announcement earlier this week adds to a busy period of product launches.
M6 Chip Focuses on Graphics and Artificial Intelligence
The new MacBook Pro is powered by Apple’s M6 silicon, featuring a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU. Apple says the processor delivers up to 30% faster graphics performance and up to 25% faster AI workloads compared with the previous-generation M5 chip.
The company also claims that the M6 can process large language model prompts up to 13 times faster than the M1-powered MacBook Pro. Compared with the M5 model, Apple advertises performance improvements of up to 1.3 times in certain workloads.
These gains are intended to benefit demanding applications, including video editing, graphics-intensive workflows and on-device AI tools. Actual performance will depend on the application, workload and configuration.
Memory and Storage Options
The entry-level MacBook Pro comes with 16GB of unified memory, with configurations available up to 32GB. Its memory bandwidth reaches 170GB/s, compared with 153GB/s on the M5 chip.
The additional bandwidth is designed to help the processor handle demanding applications and data-intensive tasks more efficiently.
The base configuration includes 1TB of storage, with higher-capacity options available for users working with large creative projects and extensive media libraries.
Up to 24 Hours of Battery Life
Apple says the new laptop can deliver up to 24 hours of battery life, making endurance a key part of the M6 upgrade. Actual battery performance will vary according to usage, settings and applications.
The device also supports fast charging, allowing the battery to reach approximately 50% in 30 minutes when connected to a compatible high-wattage USB-C power adapter.
Wireless connectivity has been upgraded to Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, offering support for newer networking and peripheral technologies.
Ports and Other Features
The new MacBook Pro retains a range of physical connections for professional users. These include:
- Three Thunderbolt 4 ports
- HDMI output
- MagSafe 3 charging
- An SDXC card slot
- A headphone jack
- A 12-megapixel camera
The selection allows users to connect external displays, storage devices, cameras and other accessories without relying entirely on adapters.
Price and Availability
The 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 chip starts at $1,999 in the United States and comes in Space Black and Silver.
Apple is scheduled to open pre-orders on October 28, with availability beginning November 6. Pricing will vary by memory, storage and display configuration.
What the Launch Means for Apple’s Mac Lineup
The M6 MacBook Pro strengthens Apple’s push to combine processor efficiency with improved graphics and AI capabilities. The new iMac, which also uses the M6 chip, extends the processor upgrade to Apple’s desktop all-in-one range.
For users upgrading from older Intel-based Macs or early Apple silicon models, the new hardware may offer improvements in processing speed, connectivity and battery efficiency. However, the practical benefits will depend on the age of the existing device and the user’s specific workload.
With the “Pro and Tell” event approaching, Apple’s latest announcements signal a continued emphasis on performance-focused computing and AI-enabled features across its product portfolio.
