Israeli Strikes in Gaza Kill Six, Including Child, as Ceasefire Talks Remain Stalled- At least six Palestinians, including a nine-year-old girl, were killed and more than a dozen others injured in Israeli military strikes across the Gaza Strip on Sunday, according to Palestinian health officials. The latest violence comes as negotiations over a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas remain deadlocked, with both sides failing to reach an agreement on the next phase of the truce.
One of the deadliest incidents occurred in Gaza City’s Sabra neighborhood, where a drone strike targeted a blacksmith shop, killing at least four Palestinians, according to officials at Shifa Hospital, which received the casualties. The Israeli military confirmed carrying out strikes in the area, initially stating that it had targeted “terrorist infrastructure.” It later said the attack was aimed at a Hamas weapons production facility.
According to local reports, residents received an evacuation warning from the Israeli military after the initial strikes. Around an hour later, the same area was hit by a series of intense airstrikes, causing additional casualties and widespread damage. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said its ambulance teams treated at least 14 people who were wounded in the attacks on Gaza City.
In a separate incident, nine-year-old Tala Abu Matar was killed by Israeli gunfire in a displacement camp in central Gaza, according to officials from Gaza’s Health Ministry. The Israeli military said it was not aware of the reported incident involving the child.
Another Israeli strike targeted a tent sheltering displaced families in Khan Younis in southern Gaza, killing one Palestinian, according to health officials at Nasser Hospital. Israel’s military confirmed conducting an operation in the area, describing it as part of its routine military activities, but said it had no information indicating civilian casualties.
The latest attacks add to the mounting toll since the collapse of the ceasefire. Gaza’s Health Ministry said at least 1,098 Palestinians, including more than 260 children, have been killed since the truce ended. During the same period, five Israeli soldiers have also been killed.
The war began after Hamas-led militants launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages, according to Israeli authorities. Israel responded with a large-scale military offensive across Gaza that has continued for months.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, the Israeli offensive has so far killed 73,221 Palestinians. The ministry, which operates under the Hamas-led administration in Gaza, says women and children account for around half of those killed. While it does not distinguish between civilians and combatants in its casualty figures, its data has generally been regarded by United Nations agencies and independent experts as broadly reliable.
Despite repeated international efforts to broker a lasting ceasefire, negotiations between Israel and Hamas remain at an impasse. The primary points of disagreement include the implementation of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, the future disarmament of Hamas, the release of remaining hostages, and plans for the reconstruction and governance of Gaza after the conflict.
Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in the enclave continues to deteriorate. Much of Gaza’s population of more than two million people remains displaced, with many families living in overcrowded tent camps or among the ruins of destroyed buildings. Limited access to food, clean water, electricity, healthcare, and sanitation has further deepened the humanitarian crisis, prompting repeated calls from international organizations for increased aid access and stronger protection for civilians.
As diplomatic efforts continue without a breakthrough, civilians on both sides remain caught in a conflict that has shown few signs of easing, with ongoing military operations and humanitarian challenges continuing to shape daily life across the region.
